The EX-A customs document, is an official document governing the customs clearance of goods exported from an EU member state to a destination outside the European Union. The document registers the export and serves as proof that the goods have left the European Union. This ensures the goods are exempt from VAT and, where applicable, from excise duties or other taxes.

The EX-A document is mandatory for businesses exporting goods with a commercial value to countries outside the EU. For small parcels or goods of limited value, a simplified procedure may be possible, but a full EX-A document is required for commercial exports.
