Environmental sticker Germany (Umweltplakette)

The environmental sticker is mandatory for all vehicles that want to enter German environmental zones. This applies to both German vehicles and vehicles with a foreign license plate, such as those from the Netherlands or Belgium. The sticker is used to demonstrate that the vehicle meets the environmental standards and is allowed into the Umweltzone.

The environmental sticker is awarded based on the vehicles emission class. This class depends on the year of manufacture and the fuel of the vehicle. Most modern vehicles with diesel and petrol engines from after 2006 receive a green sticker, which means that they meet the strictest standards.

The sticker must be clearly visible on the inside of the windscreen, on the passenger side. This is necessary for a quick visual check by the authorities. Please note: if the sticker is damaged or not clearly visible, this can still lead to a fine.
